What is magic?

Many of you who are familiar with my work know that I seem to ramble on about Mermaid Magic. I've made the mistake that so many spiritual teachers have made, I just assumed my audience knew what the heck I was talking about. It dawned on me this morning, that a lot of people may not even be at a point of their personal journey that they believe that magic exists!

Lets explore the concepts for real life magic.

Let me be very clear, magic exists

Magic, in it's most basic concept, is the same as manifesting. It's not hocus pocus, sparks flying out of a wand, nor is it flying around on broomsticks. Magic,  in the spiritual sense, is just a way to talk about how to work with energy to see the results you want to see. There's a good chance you already work with magic and just don't even realize it.

Good examples of working with magic is prayer and action. When we pray, we are often giving thanks for something or asking for help with a life problem. Often, if we are open to the results, we can see our prayers answered in so many different ways! A lot of the time for me, the answer to my prayers is some type of action. It could be a simple action like have a self-care day, skip coffee, or have a day where I don't eat meat. Sometimes though, the action pushes me WAY out of my comfort zone.

When I was studying biology in Seattle, my aunt had taken me to church every Sunday. I enjoyed it. The Churches she went to were very different compared to the fire and brimstone of churches I was used to. Her Churches would preach love, forgiveness, acceptance, and peace.

At one point I remember sitting in church praying for guidance as I had fallen on financial hard times and needed $500 in car repairs. I had just paid my tuition for the quarter so my bank account only had about $100 in it.

The answer to my prayer was a test of faith. I felt a strong urge to donate $50 to the church's children's fund. I knew the Children's fund was to help rescue kids who were orphaned or being sold into child slavery. Even though the money was going to a good cause, I was petrified. This was half of my savings. Still, God says to sow seeds and watch them multiply...

I had felt the validity of my answer throughout my entire Being so despite being nervous, I donated the money with FULL faith it'll be returned, my car would be repaired, and all would be well.

Sure enough, by the end of the week not only had my car been repaired but I had $500 in my bank account and it wasn't even close to payday. You don't have to call it magic. You can call it faith, manifesting, whatever you're comfortable with.

There are Rules to Magic

Magic CAN NOT influence other peoples free will choices. Any time you intentionally use magic to manipulate another person, you'll see really poor results and it'll come back to kick you in the butt. Magic should ONLY be used to manipulate YOUR reality. Any time you try to manifest harm to someone, it will backfire and come back to you. Remember the basic principle of working with magic is what you put out, you get back. Put out love, get back love.

Magic brings your intentions into the physical

Magic is just another way of saying manifestation. Manifestation is when you decide that there's something you want to bring into this reality. You can manifest money, a home, a lover, anything you can think of, you can manifest.

A lot of people believe that magic requires some sort of ritual and while that may be helpful for some, it's not necessary for others. Ritual only helps create a physical experience to set your intentions and become crystal clear about what you want to manifest. In my experience, some things merit ritual so I can see that I am committed to bringing it into reality. Other things, I don't need the ritual to manifest.

When setting your intentions you must, must, MUST, be as specific as possible. Imagine your intentions like an order at a restaurant. You know you want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but you just tell the waiter (the universe) that you want a sandwich. The waiter can then bring you ANY type of sandwich back and it's totally possible that it'll be a little of what you wanted, but not exactly what you wanted. Give the specific order, see the specific results.

Now that we have the basic tools, what magic will you create this week? Comment to let me know!

Next week we will explore the elements and how they play a role in manifesting our perfect life.

With Love,
